Chalcedony

Chalcedony is used by gemologists as a species for cryptocryststaline quartzes as well as specifically only the bluish white-gray variety, the actual chalcydony. Some scientist ascribe only the fibrous varieties to the chalcydonies; the grainy jasper then forms its own group.

Whereas the crystals quartzes have a vitreous luster, chalcydonies are, in their natural state, waxy  or dull.
